Physiotherapy is a health care profession directed at evaluating, restoring, and maintaining physical function. A Physiotherapist uses a variety of techniques to achieve these goals, including hands-on therapy to restore joint and tissue / muscle movement, modalities (laser, ultrasound, electrical stimulation, shockwave therapy, laser , traction and heat / cold), exercise prescription and patient education on injury management and prevention.
Our Physiotherapist are well trained who determine the core root of your problem and treat the cause, not just the symptoms.
Goreway Physiotherapy has a variety of treatments that may be recommended and could include one, or more, of the following:
Exercises: This is a very important part of your treatment. Strengthening, range of motion and/or posture exercises may be given for your specific injury or condition to help you maximize the gains you have made during treatment. However, we also want to help you be as fit as possible and therefore offer condition specific supervised exercise programs once our Physiotherapist feels you are ready to do exercises.
Manual therapy: This is often referred to as “hands on” treatment where the Physiotherapist will use their hands on techniques to work on your joints and/or soft tissue structure.
Home program of self-management: In addition to your treatment, you will likely also be provided with a home exercises program (HEP) to do once you have completed your treatment. These exercises will be important for you to complete as they will complement the gains you have made in your Physiotherapy sessions.
Education: Education is an essential part of the treatment; Our Physiotherapist will educate you about the best practice related to your posture and daily living activities. We want to provide information to you on how to improve your condition and how to prevent a re-occurrence. We are happy to answer any questions that you have as we walk with you on your road to recovery.
Electro-Therapeutic modalities: Modalities often used to decrease inflammation and pain, improve circulation and improve strength. These may include ultrasound, laser, interferential current, shockwave, laser, ice, heat, paraffin wax, etc.
Muscle energy Technique: Our physiotherapists are trained in using muscle energy techniques as these techniques helps in increasing Range of motion, relaxes muscle, helps in decreasing pain. Muscle energy techniques require the patient to actively use his or her muscles on request to aid in treatment. Most of the MET’s can be safely applied to almost all joints.
Myofascial release: Our Physiotherapist are trained in Myofascial release techniques, and this is the types of massage therapy that is used to increase soft tissue mobility called myofascial mobility. Additionally, myofascial release reduces pain within the musculoskeletal system by providing relaxation, treating post-injury stiffness, for treating acute pain cases and Treating individual after surgery.
Dry Needling: Dry needling, also known as intramuscular stimulation, and in this we use solid “non injection” needles to stimulate specific reactions in an area of muscle tissue and the surrounding fascia or membrane, to alleviate pain, stiffness and tightness.
Acupuncture: Acupuncture is one of the oldest and most used systems of healing in the world. It stimulates the body to produce its own pain-relieving substances called “endorphins.” It is a very effective tool for relieving muscle tension and trigger-points and stimulates various systems in the body including the sympathetic nervous system which helps to decrease inflammation and promote healing.
Taping: This may be appropriate for the specific sport(s) and when you need to return to or for postural correction. Taping can be used to improve stability of joints and helps in relaxing tight muscles.
